Brackets/Prose: Prose but I'll do brackets!
Offensive Subjects & Triggers to Avoid: N/A

🦋 In Character

Physical Affection: If he knows you he'll be affectionate. In a frat boy, football bro sort of way. Uther wasn't exactly prone to fatherly displays of affection so, he's still getting used to this idea.
Physical Violence: Physical violence is pretty much the only thing he thinks he's good at.
NPC Interaction: Let's talk
Psychic & Psionic Information: Let's chat! He has no defenses, so let's figure out what you'd find.
Magical Information: Arthur has no magically defenses, message me to find out what you'd find!
Medical Information: This boy's been hit in the head so many times he's probably got brain damage. We're talking like 20+ concussions. He's also had a fair share of broken bones, stab wounds, poisons. He's a medieval knight.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character:Well magic is outlawed, so he's still getting used to the idea of it. His father got his mother killed in order to conceive him and his dad regularly locked him in the dungeon. And then his sister went nuts, tried to take over the kingdom and tortured their dad. He's fine. Really.

🦋 Out Of Character

Backtagging: Into infinity!
Threadhopping: Ask first in case something is planned!
Fourthwalling: Go for it. It's King Arthur after all! Make fun of him, ask him about Gwen and Excalibur and Lancelot. He'll be super confused.

Age: 23
Canon: BBC's Merlin
Canon Point: Season 3, Episode 13. The Coming of Arthur
Character History: Link
Canon Abilities:
Besides being trained to kill by the time he was old enough to stand, Arthur has no magical abilities or special skills.

Weapons: Being a Knight of Camelot, he’s very good with weapons. He prefers a broadsword but has trained with others as well (spear, javelin, mace, crossbow, battle axe, etc). He can even fight blindfolded.

Hand to hand: Arthur’s more of a brawler, there’s no real finesse or martial arts to it. He just throws himself in there.

Politics: He’s the Crown Prince of Camelot. So...yeah. He’s can do this.

That all being said, the man also can’t get dressed by himself.

Inventory:
His clothing/armor, Excalibur

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.

Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

It's hard not to believe in magic when your father outlaws it and deems it punishable by death. While his father Uther's attitude toward magic is fiercely oppositional, Arthur spends his life caught between different perspectives, but lacking the ability to really take a stand on his own and single out his own belief on magic. Most of the time Arthur is either caught up in Uther's brainwashing against magic, or feels simply obligated by the laws his father passed down (and post canon point, Arthur himself feels unable or unworthy to lift the decree). It is only in the last few moments of the series, when Arthur learns of Merlin's magic, that we see him truly start to see things from his own point of view, without relying on anyone else. And from those few brief glimpses show Arthur as one of acceptance, upset more at the lack of trust that Merlin showed in him than any real distrust of magic. The man is more upset that someone he thought he trusted for years, with his whole life, lied to him about something so basic, so intrinsic as who he is. But in those final moments, he still accepts him, and thanks him.  At the moment though, his attitude is one of distrust. Arthur is still heavily under Uther's grasp and he's struggling to get free of it, and figure out who he is and his own belief and person. Even in the beginning of the series, we see Arthur defend the use of magic, when Merlin uses it to save Gwen's father. He stands up to own father, arguing the difference between the use of magic to cause a plaque and the use of magic to save someone's life. Arthur cares. Deeply.

If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

Arthur would like to go back to his first command, when the druids were slaughtered. This was early on in Arthur’s life, he was inexperienced, his first mission leading the knights. Under Uther’s orders, and trying desperately to please his father and get the knights to respect and look up to him, Arthur lead a raid on a Druid camp. Despite his orders only to kill the men, sparing the women and children, many of the knights wouldn’t listen to him. Arthur froze, and was unable to stop them. The camp was entirely desecrated, and pretty much everyone was slaughtered. To this day he wrestles with that decision to raid the camp, and is dreadfully saddened by the ruthlessness and horror that went on that day--although he has not yet admitted it. It is something he deeply regrets. Despite this, if Uther had lead the raid, there wouldn’t have been anyone surviving either. He would jump at the chance to redo this, to make right what he had been unable to do previously, to gather the strength he has learned since then and keep his men in line. His first command is at complete odds with the king he knows he wants to be.

If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

Merlin, without a question. Without a doubt, without a second thought. This man has already sent an entire army after him after he went missing, he's had panic attacks when he can't find him. Not to mention Arthur literally can't get dressed and function without Merlin. He needs him. He's so used to having him by his side that he takes him for granted. Merlin is Arthur's other half, they are two sides of the same coin. Arthur cares for him deeply, even if he still can't exactly say it due to the wash of toxic masculinity he's still trying to stop drowning in. Thanks Uther. Arthur is someone who didn't realize just how much he means to his father. This man is surprised when Uther tells him how precious he is. So, Merlin? Someone who shows him how much he cares for him time and time again, is always there for him despite the abuse? Arthur would follow him without question. They're also psychically connected in a way, Merlin knows when Arthur needs help on an intrinsic level and Arthur is not capable of standing idly by when Merlin is in trouble. The man literally gets anxious without Merlin. He needs his emotional support servant.

What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

Self sacrificing jerk. While Arthur is extremely kind and honorable, with a strong sense of justice, a lot of who he is, is currently behind a mask of brattiness. Arthur’s kind of an ass. Merlin helps him grow from the ass of a prince he was, into the king he will become. Arthur is who Uther coached him to be, or was simply a mask to keep in his fathers good graces. And let’s not be kind. Uther is a paranoid tyrant. Uther has a very strong hold on Arthur, who both respects and fears him as a King. He works thanklessly to make his father proud, but by the same token expresses displeasure at Uther’s decisions, telling him he knows now what kind of a King he does not want to be. Arthur fears his father, but will disobey him for his own moral compass.  Even if it means his father throws him in the dungeons-- which Uther will and has. Because of this, and as a result of Uther’s lack of fatherly compassion, Arthur struggles between what Uther expects and what he expects of himself.

The more tender aspects of his personality are hidden under the guise of snobbery and arrogance. Uther would have him believe that people would never follow a king who showed weakness or asked for help. Arthur has only just started to overcome this. He learns not only to ask for help, but to be true to what he believes in, despite the consequences. While he is growing into the king he will be, he does on more than one occasion revert back to pigheaded assholeness. We can blame this on Uther for raising a son who has no idea how to deal with his feelings in an adult manner.

He really believes in honesty and truth and equality, even if his father really doesn’t. He’ll bend over backward and risk his life for people he doesn’t even know, be them nobility or peasants, just because it’s the right thing to do. Uther throws him in the dungeons for this actually, claiming Arthur has to learn there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and that his own life is worth more than anyone elses. Arthur has a bit of a blind eye to how cruel Uther really is.
